Scammers pretending to be from the Financial Ombudsman service have been phoning and emailing people in order to steal their financial details. Be aware that the ombudsman will never email or call you unless they need information on an ongoing case.
The Financial Ombudsman is a free and independent service that looks into complaints about financial products and services from banks, insurance, PPI, loans and so on. If the ombudsman rules a case in your favour, the ombudsman will not pay compensation. This would come directly from the company you had a problem with.
If you receive a call from someone at the ombudsman, which you suspect might not be genuine call it on 0300 123 9 123 to check.
