Phishing email that knows your address sent to 1,000s

Thousands of people have received an email including the recipient’s home address, BBC reported. The emails claim that you owe hundreds of pounds to named UK firms. These firms have been inundated with emails about this.

A security expert has warned that if you click on the link in the email, you would install malware to your computer.  Malware like Cryptolocker could be installed, which is a form of ransomware that encrypts files on Windows-based computers and demands a fee to unlock them.

If you have received an email like this, report it to Action Fraud.

If you are unsure if an email you have received has hallmarks of a scam, call Citizens Advice consumer line on 03454 04 05 06.
